Playing without its top two offensive players from last season due to injuries, the Montana State volleyball team battled but came up short in both matches at the Gonzaga Invitational on Saturday.

MSU dropped a 15-25, 25-21, 25-17, 13-25, 15-10 decision to Grand Canyon, before losing to host Gonzaga 25-12, 25-20, 25-17 in the night cap.

Montana State (2-4) took to the court without the services of offensive leaders Kennadie Clute and Natalee Godfrey. Despite out-hitting Grand Canyon, MSU couldn't overcome the Antelopes' 59-49 advantage in kills.

The Bobcats were led in the match by Loni Kreun with 13 kills, while Jolie Meade, Eli Svisco and Zoe Gogan added 11, apiece.

"I thought we got complacent in the latter part of the match," MSU Head Coach Kyle Weindel said. "We had a shot to win, but just didn't take care of the little details it takes to be successful."

Against Gonzaga, the Bulldogs out-hit MSU .309 to .150 to cruise to the straight set win.

The Bobcats were led by Svisco and Meade with eight and seven kills, respectively.
