“We got a nice little spark from Teya,” Houk said. “I thought she took some really nice swings. She hasn't gotten opportunities where she's stayed on the court for extended periods of time. She entered in set one and stayed for the rest of the match. Teya really did an impressive job.”
Montana State found themselves down early in the opening set before head coach Matt Houk called timeout to deliver a firm message. The result was a 25-20, 25-15, 25-22 victory over Eastern Washington on Thursday night in Shroyer Gym.
Montana State (12-12, 7-6) trailed by five points before Houk corralled his troops for a chat. Eastern Washington (2-23, 0-13) took its largest lead at 14-7 coming out of the timeout before the Bobcats flipped the switch going on a 13-5 run to take its first advantage at 20-19 following a service ace by senior libero Lauren Lindseth. MSU broke away at 20-all behind the play of Joelie Spelts and Teagan Jaynes to record a five-point victory.
"I think the team needed a wakeup call," Houk said of his first timeout of the contest. "It was frustrating to see the things we worked on and did quite well throughout the week being executed very inconsistently. At this point in the season, the grass is green, and the sky is blue- do your job.
"And they did," Houk added. "It was nice that they responded. We can be a good volleyball team. They started to refocus on every single point. They locked in and were much better after that switch. I would say over the rest of the match, they were much more consistent point to point."
MSU cruised in set two outhitting EWU .439 to .226. The Bobcats went up 2-0 as Madilyn Siebler recorded her fourth kill of the frame at set point.
"That second set was kind of mechanical," Houk said. "It was dig a good ball, pass a good ball, set a good ball in rhythm, and hit a good shot. We didn't need to be perfect."
The Bobcats jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the final set as sophomore Teya Yeomans made her presence known. The sophomore from Mancos, Colo., had five kills in the frame and ended with a career-high seven kills. With the set even at 22-all, Yeomans put the Bobcats up one before an Eagle hitting error and an Elli Tufto kill put an exclamation point on MSU's evening.

Spelts and Siebler paced MSU with 11 kills apiece, while Camryn Greenwald and Karli Heidemann added nine. Jaynes dished out 42 assists as the Bobcats posted a .262 attack mark.
Defensively, Nicolette Noble led the Bobcats with 14 digs, while Lindseth and Siebler added 13 and 11, respectively. Greenwald led MSU at the net with four blocks.
