Bobcats Comeback Falls Short

Montana State received a career-matching 17 kills from senior middle blocker Camryn Greenwald and double digit kills from Joelie Spelts, Madilyn Siebler, and Karli Heidemann, but it wasn't enough as the Bobcats came up short in its quest for a reverse sweep, dropping a 25-20, 25-21, 20-25, 20-25, 15-12 decision to Idaho State, Wednesday night in Reed Gym.
Greenwald, a product of Woodbury, Minn., committed just four errors on 39 attempts as her .333 attack mark was tops on the Montana State (13-13, 8-7) squad. Spelts finished with 13 kills and a team-high five blocks, while Siebler and Heidemann recorded 11 kills, apiece. Siebler and Heidemann also registered MSU's only double doubles for the contest digging up 17 and 11 saves, respectively.
For the match, Idaho State (10-17, 6-9) out-hit the Bobcats .226 to .168, including .226 to .062 in the fifth and deciding set. The Bengals also frustrated MSU at the net, outblocking the Bobcats 17-7.
For the ninth time this season, MSU went into a fifth frame. ISU jumped out to an 8-3 lead, before the Bobcats fought back with an 8-3 run of its own to even the set at 11-all after a Bengal setting error. Idaho State scored the next two points, before a service error pulled MSU back to within 13-12. The Bengals closed out the match on back-to-back kills by Abby McClain and Annelie Wilson.
Montana State is 5-4 in five-set matches this fall. The contest featured 29 ties and 12 lead changes as the two rivals battled for 2 hours and 37 minutes.
Defensively, senior Lauren Lindseth posted a match-high 25 digs, while dishing out eight assists. Freshman setter Teagan Jaynes ended with seven kills, 43 assists, two aces and six digs.
Montana State closes out its regular season slate at Weber State, Saturday at 6 p.m., in Swenson Gym.
