Bobcat Volleyball Begins Action with Pair of Preseason Contests

BOZEMAN, Mont. – As summer practice comes to a close and student-athletes return to campus, the Montana State volleyball squad marks the turn of the calendar with a pair of preseason contests this week.
With 11 players remaining on the roster and five newcomers joining the MSU squad, volleyball fans have the chance to get a preview of the year to come as head coach Matt Houk kicks off his fourth season at the program's helm.
The Bobcats will kick off the 2026 season when they host the annual Blue-Gold Scrimmage on Tuesday, Aug. 11, in Shroyer Gym. The scrimmage is free and open to the public, with first serve scheduled for 7 p.m.
"We are looking forward to getting on the court for the Blue-Gold scrimmage Tuesday night and to turn around and head to Billings on Saturday to take on South Dakota School of Mines," Houk said. "It's a good opportunity for us to find out some things about our group."
Saturday, Aug. 15 will provide another opportunity to see the Cats in action with a 2 p.m. exhibition match against South Dakota Mines at Billings Central Catholic High School. Also free and open to the public, this will mark the first of two exhibitions for MSU this fall.
The Cats' season officially begins Aug. 29 with a two-day tournament hosted by Lafayette University. Montana State will also play Delaware and Marist that weekend. The team's home opener is slated for Thursday, Sept. 10 against North Dakota State.
"The team had a nice first week of practice last week, and I feel like they are quite anxious to get out on the court in a real match atmosphere," Houk said. "We are looking forward to seeing Bozeman show up on Tuesday night and get Shroyer Shakin' early this fall. Go Cats!"
