Bobcat Volleyball Announces Complete 2026-27 Schedule
BOZEMAN, Mont. – Four preseason tournaments and 18 Big Sky matchups will provide a variety of opponents and opportunities for the Montana State Volleyball team as the program enters its fourth season under head coach Matt Houk.
Houk announced the complete 2026 slate on Tuesday, just over one month out from the start of competition. Montana State supporters can mark their calendars for the annual Blue and Gold Scrimmage on August 11. Early action will include a pair of exhibitions against South Dakota Mines at Billings Central Catholic High School and the University of Washington in Seattle.
The Bobcats will hit the road to open the season with tournaments at Lafayette and St. Thomas universities. MSU will then welcome Portland and North Dakota State to Shroyer Gym for a three-day tournament beginning Sept. 10. Following the Bobcat Invitational, non-conference action will conclude on the road in a tournament at Mercer University.
"I am excited for the 2026 schedule. We are going to some places that we have never been to before, and heading back to St. Thomas, where we played during the 2023 season. I believe that our non-conference schedule offers us the ability to test ourselves and find out what our strengths and weaknesses are, which should get us ready for the gauntlet that is the Big Sky Conference season. As always, we are looking forward to our matchups with Montana to start and end the conference slate, and are ready to see where we match up with the likes of NAU and Northern Colorado."
A pair of rivalry contests will bookend the conference schedule, with the first of two annual Cat-Griz matchups kicking off Big Sky action in Missoula on Sept. 22. The Big Sky Conference introduces two new opponents in Southern Utah and Utah Tech, who will each face the Bobcats for a home-and-away series.
A rematch of last season's Big Sky Conference Tournament game will come early as the Cats travel to Greeley in September for a matchup with Northern Colorado, one of eight Big Sky opponents slated for a pair of games this year. Weber State and Idaho State promise one match apiece, with respective road and home contests.
The Bobcats will host their in-state rivals in the regular season finale on Nov. 20 in Bozeman's Brick Breeden Fieldhouse, before looking to advance to their ninth consecutive Big Sky Conference Tournament, which will begin on Monday, Nov. 23.
"I believe our team will be ready for the challenges that are ahead of them," Houk said. "They had a strong off-season. They learned and grew a lot. Overall, we will be a young team, but with some very strong upperclassmen who are poised to lead the way. I'm ready to see Bozeman get Shroyer shaking again this season for our 12 home matches."
