Montana State heads back on the road this weekend making the trek down I-15 with stops in Pocatello, Idaho and Ogden, Utah.

The Bobcats open play at Idaho State, Thursday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. in Reed Gym. MSU closes out the weekend at Weber State, Saturday, Oct. 5 at 6 p.m., in Swenson Gymnasium.
QUICK SETS: MSU went 1-1 in the opening week of Big Sky Conference action. The Bobcats dropped a 3-1 decision at Sacramento State on Thursday, before returning home where it defeated Northern Arizona 3-0 on Saturday night in Shroyer Gym. Idaho State went 2-0 on the weekend. The Bengals defeated Eastern Washington 3-1 in Reed Gym on Thursday, before bouncing Northern Colorado 3-2 in Greeley on Saturday. Weber State is also 2-0 after the opening week. The Wildcats defeated Northern Arizona 3-0 in Flagstaff on Thursday, before handing Idaho a 3-0 loss on Saturday afternoon in Ogden.
TWTWTW: The Bobcats enjoyed being back in the warm confines of Shroyer Gym opening its Big Sky home slate with a 25-22, 25-21, 25-20 victory over Northern Arizona, Saturday. MSU took advantage of the home hardwood getting out to a 15-11 lead in the first frame. NAU chipped away at the deficit and grabbed a 20-19 lead heading down the stretch. The Cats received a kill by Karli Heidemann and a block from Jourdain Kamps and Joelie Spelts to go back on top for good. MSU closed out the set on a Madilyn Siebler kill. MSU jumped out in the second set building a 21-15 margin on a Heidemann kill and closed out the game on back-to-back kills by Spelts and Camryn Greenwald. The 'Jacks turned the momentum in set three holding two five-point leads, the last at 13-8. The Cats righted the ship with a 7-1 run sparked by a block by Courtney Weatherby. Tied at 14-all, MSU scored four straight and NAU would get no closer than three. Heidemann had a match-high 15 kills, while Greenwald and Siebler added ten apiece. Defensively, Lauren Lindseth recorded 21 digs, while Spelts added eight blocks. In a battle between the two teams picked to finish atop the standings in the Big Sky Coach's poll, Sacramento State knocked off MSU 25-19, 21-25, 25-22, 25-17 on Thursday. Picked to finish eighth in the preseason poll, ISU has used strong defensive play for its rise, which includes leading the nation in blocking at 3.22 per set. Jaydin Watts (1.44) and Marci Bell (1.40) are ranked first and second in the Big Sky in blocking, respectively. Offensively, the Bengals are just as stout hitting a league best .270 from the floor. Bell leads the Big Sky, individually, with a .414 attack mark. On the season, Jamie Streit leads the team averaging 3.11 kills per game, while Sadie Bluth is close behind at 2.82 kps. Defensively, Ashiah Sopoaga averages 3.62 digs per set. Weber State is 5-8 overall and 2-0 in Big Sky play after defeating Northern Arizona 3-0 in Flagstaff, last Thursday. Last weekend, the Cats were outblocked by its opponents 2.71 to 2.29 per set. The nation's top blocking program to date is Idaho State at 3.22 bps. Individually, Jordan Radick leads MSU averaging 1.09 bps, while Jourdain Kamps averages 1.04 per contest. Camryn Greenwald .86 and Erika Gustafson .85 also rank among the top blockers in the Big Sky. Radick and Kamps rank 162nd and 190th in the nation, respectively.
ANYONE, ANYTIME, ANYPLACE: According to the NCAA rankings, Montana State's 2024 schedule is the 41st toughest slate in the nation and tops in the Big Sky Conference. The Bobcats have faced three teams ranked this week in the AVCA/TARAFLEX Division I Women's Volleyball Top 25 poll - #2 Nebraska, #15 Arizona State, and #25 Washington.
PACKING THE PLACE: Montana State is averaging 951 fans this season (three matches). On Aug. 30 against Big Ten newcomer Washington, 1,232 fans watched the Cats open their season in Shroyer Gym. Last fall, MSU finished 65th in the nation averaging 1,115 fans per game. On Sept. 30, 2022, Montana State set a Big Sky and State of Montana record when 6,457 fans jammed Worthington Arena.
HORSESHOES & HAND GRENADES: Seven of Montana State's 50 sets played have gone to extra points. The Bobcats are 3-4 in those matches. MSU's last extra point set (26-28) came in the second frame against Memphis at the Webb-Burbridge/Arizona State Classic in Tempe, last week.
THE MENACE FROM ENNIS: Jourdain Kamps, who enjoyed a stellar 2023 campaign which culminated being named First-Team All-Big Sky, is averaging 2.31 kills per set with a .220 attack mark. In addition, she is chipping in 1.04 blocks and 0.85 digs per contest. Kamps had her best match of the season at South Dakota on Sept. 13, posting 17 kills, a .261 attack mark, eight digs and five blocks. Last season, Kamps averaged 2.57 kills, while hitting .263. In addition, she averaged 1.90 digs and .91 blocks and chipped in 24 aces. The product of Ennis, Mont., was in double-figure kills in twenty matches, including 18 kills on two occasions, the last coming at Weber State on Nov. 11, 2023. Kamps, who has been part of the Bobcat program since redshirting in 2019, moved into fifth on MSU's all-time block assists chart with 397, while her 419 total blocks is fifth all-time. Kamps was a Second Team All-Big Sky pick in the spring of 2021 after averaging 1.49 kills and .97 blocks in the shortened 15-match season. In 2022, Kamps had a career-high 23 kills at Eastern Washington. She enters this week's play needing 27 kills for 1,000 on her career, making her the 18th Bobcat to reach the milestone.
GOTTA DIG IT: Lauren Lindseth has opened the 2024 campaign totaling 222 digs in 50 sets. Last weekend, she averaged 5.86 digs per set. She had her best outing against Northern Arizona, averaging 7.0 dps. Lindseth became the 11th member of MSU's 1,000 Dig Club against Denver on Sept. 5. Her current total of 1,191 career digs is eighth all-time. Last fall, Lindseth ranked seventh in Big Sky play averaging 3.77 per game. On Aug. 31, 2023, she recorded a career-high 34 digs against St. Thomas (MN). For the season, Lindseth recorded 28 matches in double-digit digs. Lindseth's 494 digs last were the fifth best single season mark in MSU history, while her freshman total of 475 digs ranks sixth. As a sophomore, she was in double-digit digs in 22 matches, including a streak of 13 consecutive matches. Lindseth has earned All-Big Sky Tournament honors the last two seasons, and she is a four-time Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year honoree.
LINDSETH LEGACY: Lauren Lindseth is part of Bobcat history as one-half of the first mother/daughter duo to play at MSU. Lindseth's mother - Kelly Modrow (MOD-row) - played at MSU from 1992-1996. The native of Minnetonka, Minn., (Hopkins HS) played in 110 matches and 359 sets. In all, Modrow's recorded 889 kills, 733 digs, 128 blocks and 87 aces wearing the No. 2 jersey, as well.
A LENDING HAND: Senior Nellie Stevenson has played all 13 matches as MSU's setter. The 5-11 senior from San Leandro, Calif., dished out 4.71 assists per set last weekend against Sacramento State and Northern Arizona. Her current 6.69 assists average ranks sixth in Big Sky play. Stevenson, who comes to MSU via Feather River Junior College, dished out 1,049 assists last fall, averaging 8.53 per set. That mark ranked fifth in Big Sky action.
CAMMER TIME: Montana State junior middle blocker Camryn Greenwald is off to a strong start this season. The product of Woodbury, Minn., averaged 2.00 kills and added seven blocks against Sacramento State and Northern Arizona. Greenwald had her best match against NAU with ten kills, a .269 attack mark and three blocks. Earlier this season, she had a career-high nine blocks against Middle Tennessee. Last fall, she averaged 1.62 kills and .96 blocks, while hitting a team-high .268. Greenwald recorded five matches in double-figure kills, including a career-high 13 against Idaho on Oct. 14.
JO KNOWS: Bozeman product and senior middle blocker Jordan Radick posted six kills and six blocks last week against Sacramento State and Northern Arizona.
