"It was a little opportunistic," Jones said. "We came here knowing we were playing two matches. Then we got word that a team had to withdraw from NDSU's tournament as we landed (Wednesday) in Fargo. I gave the NDSU staff a call and we scrambled to make it happen. It's beneficial for both programs and a great addition to our non-conference schedule."
Montana State plays North Dakota this evening at 6 p.m. (MT) and faces Fordham on Friday at 5 p.m., both in Grand Forks. Originally, the Bobcats were to drive to Minneapolis, spend some time at the Mall of America, then fly back to Bozeman Saturday evening.
"When I told the team we were playing another match at NDSU, rather than going to the Mall of America, they were pumped," Jones chuckled.
Montana State, who is 1-5 overall, which includes dropping four five-set matches, will face NDSU for the only the second time in its history. MSU defeated the Bison 3-0 on Oct. 29, 2005, in Shroyer Gym.
North Dakota State, who is currently 4-2 overall, plays Chicago State and Central Michigan on Friday.
