Over 20 personal-best marks were achieved which included five efforts that made adjustments to MSU’s all-time top 10 outdoor charts in Missoula over the weekend.
MISSOULA, Mont. – Montana State had a variety of high performers carry its men's and women's teams through the two-day Al Manuel Northwest Invitational that wrapped up on Saturday, March 27, at Dornblaser Field. Over 20 personal-best marks were achieved which included five efforts that made adjustments to MSU's all-time top 10 outdoor charts.
"We followed up last week's outdoor opener with another outstanding team performance today," Montana State head coach Lyle Weese said. "We were pretty fortunate to have pretty good weather for this time of the year, so it ended up being a good competitive experience.
"We were able to get out and compete against a couple other Big Sky teams which I think will be helpful as we continue through our outdoor schedule."
MSU's Noah Martin eclipsed the seven-foot mark in the high jump outdoors for the first time in his college career Saturday. Martin, who previously topped seven feet during the 2020 indoor season, cleared 7-00.25 (2.14m). He became the first Bobcat to leap over the height of seven feet in over 20 years and is now tied for fourth in program history in the event with Tom Clymore's 1992 mark.
Drake Schneider had two strong performances for the Bobcat sprinters. He led a 1-5 lineup that featured Will Anderson, Jared Schwend, Alex Hershey and Damien Nelson in the men's 400-meter race with his time of 47.69 seconds. His converted time due to altitude ranks among the top seven on the Bobcats' all-time top 10 outdoor chart. He also took second in the 200 by crossing the line in 21.79.
Madi Arneson, Alec Nehring and Ethan Saberhagen had the top efforts among MSU's throws contingent. Arneson finished first in the women's discus with her throw of 152-09 (45.89m) which moved her from 10th to ninth all-time among Bobcats. Nehring finished first in the men's shot put with his best of his outdoor career of 57-08 (17.60m) while Saberhagen did the same in the discus with his throw of 169-10 (51.78m). Those performances were the eighth and 10th best in MSU history, respectively.
A variety of MSU's women's runners archived first-place results behind lifetime bests in races over the weekend.
Zoe Delaney claimed first in the women's 400 with her time of 1:00.43. Lexi Kyro led an MSU 1-2-3 finish in the 1,500 by clocking a 4:35.90, while Elena Vandersloot was the top Bobcat among top three performers with her time of 18:14.09 in the 5,000. Both of MSU's relay teams in the 4x100 (Elena Carter, Morgan Evans, Evelyn Adams, Macy White) and the 4x400 (Megan Good, Alex Hellenberg, Trisha Carlson, Kyro) placed first.
