Rizzo Records Digs Milestone as Cats Fall to Weber State

“We had glimpses of good execution, but we lacked the consistency we needed to get over the hump,” said MSU head coach Daniel Jones. “I thought we countered Weber State’s runs pretty well, but they just kept the pressure on and we couldn’t answer their second and third runs.”
OGDEN, Utah – Montana State libero Allyssa Rizzo posted a match-high 18 digs, but it wasn't enough to overcome Weber State's offensive efficiency as the Wildcats swept the Bobcats 25-15, 25-22, 25-21 on Saturday night in Swenson Gym to complete the Big Sky Conference regular-season for both squads.
Rizzo's 18 saves gives her 606 on the season making her the only Bobcat in history to go over the 600-dig plateau in one season. Her career total stands at 1,450, which is fourth all-time in program history.
Weber State (18-9, 13-5) out-hit Montana State (11-18, 6-12) .452 to .161 in the opening set.
The Bobcats battled back in the second frame and held 21-20 lead in the waning moments of the set following a Weber State attack error. The Wildcats rattled off four unanswered points and took a 2-0 match advantage on a kill by Megan Gneiting.
Weber State built a sizeable eight-point cushion in the final set at 18-10, but MSU wouldn't go down easy as the Bobcats went on an 11-5 run to pull to within 23-21. WSU closed out the match on a kill by Sam Schiess.

Sophomore middle blocker Kelsie White paced the Bobcats with seven kills, a .429 attack mark and four blocks, while Hannah Scott led all MSU hitters with eight kills.
Weber State was paced by Andrea Hale and Schiess with 15 and ten kills, respectively.
Montana State awaits its seed for the Big Sky Conference Tournament, which gets underway on Thanksgiving Day in Greeley, Colorado. It will mark MSU's first trip to the conference tournament since 2012.
"We're excited to get to Greeley," Jones said. "Everyone enters 0-0."
