Idaho out-hit Montana State .406 to .168 to notch a straight set 25-21, 25-18, 25-20 victory over the Bobcats, Saturday night in Shroyer Gym in the season-finale` for MSU.
Montana State (10-15, 6-10) was led by junior Natalie Passeck with 12 kills, while senior Kiana Black and freshman Kelsie White added seven, apiece. It was the final match for Black, along with fellow seniors Katie Rutecki and Audra Dugan.
Black finished the match with a .263 attack mark, while Rutecki dished out 35 assists and Dugan posted two kills and a block.
"It was obviously disappointing to go out with a match like that," said MSU head coach Daniel Jones. "The girls were determined to get to the tournament, the door was open and a few things had to go our way.
"Kiana has given so much to this program over her four years and she's become a totally different young woman than what she was when she arrived, which is really gratifying," Jones added. "And Audra and Katie have contributed enormously on and off the court the last two years. To go out with a loss was hard, but it's a reflection of where we are right now and we have to keep pushing. We have to keep driving this thing forward. We've made progress and I'm super proud we doubled our wins from last year and had more conference wins. All those things are positives."
Defensively, the Bobcats were paced by sophomore libero Allyssa Rizzo with 12 digs. The sophomore from Crestwood, Ill., finished the season with 462 digs, which is the third highest single-season total in Montana State history.
Idaho (17-10, 12-4) was led by Sarah Sharp with 13 kills.
