"Creighton is a very good team and unfortunately we were not able to play our game and respond to the challenge," said MSU head coach JJ Riley. "I feel like some kids stepped up and competed hard. Once we are able to get everyone on that same level this team has a chance to be pretty darn good."
Montana State's (2-6) highlights came via sophomore Natalie Passeck and freshman Evi Wilson, who tallied a team-best seven and five kills, respectively. Freshman libero Allyssa Rizzo guided MSU in the backrow with 13 digs. Up front, Kiana Black and Savannah Laws each posted two blocks.
"We told the team it was a risk to put them in this situation of playing high caliber teams," Riley commented. "But we feel strongly that to get to your best you need to be in hard spots and in a place where you need to play above your current level. We need to stay together and take away the right things from this."
Montana State will play Gonzaga on Saturday at 11 a.m. (MT).
