“It was definitely a tough match as we struggled to get anything going offensively or defensively,” said MSU first-year head coach JJ Riley. “It was one of those days where we just couldn’t get a rhythm going.”
The Montana State offense sputtered hitting just .037 from the field as the University of Nevada cruised to a 26-24, 25-19, 25-15 win over the Bobcats at the Wolf Pack Classic, Saturday afternoon.
Montana State (2-4) played well in the opening game and held two set points at 24-22, but Nevada (4-4) rattled off four straight points on three MSU miscues for the win. The Wolf Pack out-hit the Bobcats .210 to .000 in the final two stanzas to capture the 3-0 victory.
"It was definitely a tough match as we struggled to get anything going offensively or defensively," said MSU first-year head coach JJ Riley. "It was one of those days where we just couldn't get a rhythm going."
Junior Loni Kreun was the only Bobcat to reach double-figure kills, knocking down ten winners. Freshman setter Katie Ireland led the team with nine digs, while dishing out nine assists. Sophomore Jolie Meade paced MSU at the net with a team-best four blocks.
"We need to stay together and stay strong, and stay focused on getting better each day," Riley said. "In order to grow we need to face tough days and be able to rebound and learn what we can from it."
Nevada was led by Madison Morell with 13 kills, seven digs, four blocks and three aces.
Montana State will play at Air Force next Thursday.
