THAT WAS THE WEEK THAT WAS:
Despite having five players in double-figure kills the Montana State volleyball team was unable to hang-on, dropping a hard-fought 30-28, 17-25, 23-25, 25-22, 16-14 decision to Miami (OH), Friday night in the opening-round of the Nevada Wolf Pack Classic. Montana State jumped out to an early 17-10 in the opening set, but were unable to hold the momentum as Miami rallied to take its first lead at 20-19. The two squads were tied eight times down the stretch before the Redhawks recorded back-to-back kills for the win. The second stanza belonged to MSU as the Bobcats out-hit MU .158 to .114. Montana State held the lead for most of the third set, taking a 2-1 match advantage on a Loni Kreun kill. The Redhawks evened the match out-hitting the Bobcats .265 to .237 in the fourth set. In the deciding game, MSU trailed 8-5 before going on a 5-1 run to take a 10-9 lead following a block via Natalee Godfrey and Eli Svisco. The Bobcats pushed the margin to 13-11. Miami came back to even the set at 13 and 14, before taking the final two points for the victory. Kreun paced MSU with a match-high 20 kills, while Natalie Passeck added 15, Godfrey 13, Svisco 11 and Alexandra Rader 11. Setters Katie Harrington and Katie Ireland dished out 41 and 25 assists, respectively. Defensively, the Bobcats were paced by Kasey Altman with 23 digs, followed by Passeck 14, Kreun 13, and Ireland 12. The Montana State offense sputtered hitting just .037 from the field as Nevada cruised to a 26-24, 25-19, 25-15 win over the Bobcats on Saturday. Montana State held two set points at 24-22 in the first set, but UN rattled off four straight points on three MSU miscues for the win. The Wolf Pack out-hit the Bobcats .210 to .000 in the final two stanzas to capture the win. Kreun was the only Bobcat to reach double-figure kills, knocking down ten winners.
