The JJ Riley era of Montana State volleyball begins this weekend as the Bobcats travel to Hunstville, Texas for the 27th Annual Sam Houston State University Invitational, August 28-29.
THE LIFE OF RILEY:
The JJ Riley era of Montana State volleyball begins this weekend as the Bobcats travel to Hunstville, Texas for the 27th Annual Sam Houston State University Invitational, August 28-29. Riley, who was named MSU's 10th head coach in January, will make his inaugural appearance against Tulane on Friday, Aug. 28 at 8 a.m. (MST). Montana State will finish the day against Texas San Antonio at 1 p.m. The Bobcats will close out the Bearkat Invitational against Prairie View A&M at 1 p.m., followed by the SHSU at 6 p.m.
THIS WEEK'S VITALS:
Montana State returns nine letterwinners, including five starters from last year's squad that went 7-21 overall. JJ Riley will rely heavily on three seniors during the non-conference schedule. The three are middle blocker Natalee Godfrey, who earned Second-Team All-Big Sky Conference honors last season, after leading the league in hitting percentage. Riley will also count on outside hitter Eli Svisco, who returns as MSU's top offensive threat, after pounding down 207 kills as a junior, and setter Katie Harrington, who averaged 9.95 assists per set.
REPEATING RILEY'S WORDS:
"The biggest thing is setting the standard," JJ Riley said. "What is our gym going to look like every day? The volleyball is going to come. We have to figure out the sacrifices, commitment, work ethic and attitudes we expect on a daily basis. The most important thing is to get everyone on the same page."
