MSU wins first game at Gonzaga Tournament
Jolie Meade registered 14 kills and Montana State hit .312 in the deciding fifth set as the Bobcats earned a 3-2 win over Canisius at Gonzaga on Friday.
Playing without two top players because of injury, the Bobcats fell behind 2-0 before rallying for a five set victory. Montana State led 14-10 in set five before Canisius staged a late rally. Loni Kreun logged 11 assists for the Bobcats, while Katie Harrington added 47 assists and Kasey Schlatter had 36 digs- two shy of the all-time MSU single-match record. In addition, sophomore Cassie Krueger (Kalispell) came off the bench to notch a career-high 16 kills.
"It was an incredible match for us," MSU Head Coach Kyle Weindel said. "We started really slow and lethargic, but we made a couple of tactical changes and that paid off. Cassie Krueger and Jolie Meade really did a great job. It was nice to get some kills from unexpected places. We had different people step up to help us win."
The Bobcats play Grand Canyon at noon on Saturday before facing host Gonzaga in the evening.
