MATCH NOTES (pdf)
ON THE ROAD AGAIN:
The Montana State volleyball squad is one of a handful of Big Sky Conference teams that have played the majority of its league matches on the road. In fact, only Idaho State (7) has been away from home more. MSU will face its seventh and eighth conference matches away from the friendly confines of Shroyer Gym once again this weekend as they travel to Northern Colorado, Thursday, Oct. 24 for a 7 p.m. contest against the Bears in Greeley. Montana State will fly to Grand Forks, ND, on Friday, and will face UND on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 3 p.m. (MST).
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR:
Montana State outside hitter Kennadie Clute is not only establishing herself as one of the top freshman in the Big Sky this fall, but she is also one of the best in the nation. The Bobcat rookie ranks first in the country for freshmen, averaging 4.27 kills per set, which ranks 25th overall at the NCAA Division I level. The Spokane native is first in the nation for freshmen in points per game, as well, at 4.80 per set, which is also 25th overall.
HOW 'BOUT THEM 'CATS:
Montana State saw its three-match win streak halted at Sacramento State last Saturday. It was the longest regular-season winning streak in league action since putting three together in mid-October of 2004. During the winning streak, MSU's offense exploded, averaging 15.17 kills and 14.83 assists per set, while hitting .221 from the field. In addition, the Bobcats chipped in 1.08 aces, 13.33 digs and 2.58 blocks per set. Four individuals - Kennadie Clute, Loni Kreun, Natalee Godfrey and Eli Svisco - all averaged over 2.00 kills per set. Freshman setter Anna Sykora is fourth in the nation for rookies, averaging 10.49 assists per game, while senior libero Nicole Baker is ranked 87th in the country serving up .35 aces per set.
SCOUTING THE BEARS:
Last weekend, Northern Colorado (8-12, 4-6) beat Northern Arizona and Southern Utah on the road. Sophomore outside hitter Kendra Cunningham combined for 30 kills in the two matches, including a 19-kill performance at NAU.
FAB FROSH, PART I:
Kennadie Clute, a 6-1 outside hitter from Spokane, continues to be Montana State's top offensive threat, racking up a Big Sky best 387.5 points in the first 21 matches. In addition, Clute has been in double-figure kills in all 21 matches. She is ranked first in the league averaging 4.27 kills per set and her 31 kills against Northern Arizona is the top mark in the Big Sky, as well.
GOOD GODFREY:
