Northern Colorado (9-12, 5-6) out-hit Montana State (5-17, 3-8) .319 to .126.
"We started out the match playing really tough and were point-for-point with Northern Colorado to about 17 (points) in both sets," said second-year coach Kyle Weindel. "We were able to defend and respond to the pressure they put on us for those two sets.
"In the last set, it was our mistakes that led to our demise," Weindel said. "Net violations and hitting errors really separated Northern Colorado from us."
Also contributing for the Bobcats were Natalee Godfrey with five kills and a .267 attack mark, while Eli Svisco paced MSU for the second straight match with three blocks. Defensively, Nicole Baker recorded a team-high 16 digs.
UNC was led by Briana Strong with ten kills and four blocks.
Montana State will play at league-leading Northern Dakota on Saturday afternoon.
