Portland State turned the table in the fourth set pulling away from a 13-12 lead behind a 4-1 run. MSU got no closer than 21-18 as the Vikings forced a fifth set following a block by Naomi White and Ella Hartford.
The fifth set was even at 7-all, before the Vikings benefitted from a Bobcat miscommunication, a service ace, and a kill via Carisa Barron. Following a pair of MSU time outs, PSU took match point at 14-10 on another Barron winner. The Bobcats fought off three match points to pull within 14-13, but a MSU hitting error completed the Vikings comeback.
"We've got to play cleaner," said MSU head coach Matt Houk. "We have to play set five like we were in sets one through three. The sets we are winning is what we are capable of. We've been in some tight five sets, but we haven't been in control of ourselves the way you need too, to finish it off.
"Our athletes understand that," he added. "So now they got to have the actions that follow the understanding of the moment. The next evolution of what we need is some really good execution to follow up the other stuff."
Siebler finished with a team-high 15 kills and a career-best four aces. Kamps and Courtney Weatherby also reached double figures with 12 kills apiece. Defensively, Lauren Lindseth led MSU with 17 digs, while Kamps added 12 and Siebler 10. JordanRadick finished with a team-high four blocks.
Barron guided Portland State with 18 kills and ten digs.
