After playing six of its first nine Big Sky Conference matches on the road, Montana State returns to Bozeman for a three-match home stand beginning with rival Montana on Friday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. in the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.

Last year's Cat-Griz match moved to the fieldhouse where it set a State of Montana and Big Sky Conference record with 6,457 fans in attendance.
CAT-GRIZ:
Friday night's Cat-Griz contest marks the 123rd time the two storied rivals have met on the volleyball court. The all-time series is even at 61-61 dating back to the 1975 season. UM has won the last four meetings, including a 3-0 win in Missoula on Sept. 29. Over the course of the last ten matches the series is even a five-all. The Griz have won the last three meetings in Bozeman. MSU's last win over UM on its home hardwood (3-0) came on Oct. 23, 2018.
MAIN LINE TROPHY:
Along with a point in the Brawl of the Wild series, the Main Line Trophy is also up for grabs on Friday. The first Main Line match happened Feb. 14, 2021 - a 3-2 win for MSU in Bozeman. UM holds a 4-3 mark in the Main Line series. Winner of the match keeps the trophy, which is a symbol of longevity, resilience, and strength by the hardiest citizenry of the Treasure State.
THE WEEK THAT WAS:
Montana State was not able to overcome its attack and serving errors in the opening two sets as Big Sky-leading Sacramento State handed the Bobcats a 25-22, 25-19, 22-25, 22-13 setback at The Nest on last Saturday. MSU was led by Kira Thomsen with 17 kills, three aces and six digs, while Siebler also reached double-figure kills with ten. Shayla Webber came off the bench to post three aces, while Lauren Lindseth anchored the back row with 18 digs. Kamps and Camryn Greenwald paced the Cats at the net with five blocks apiece. Last Thursday, Portland State held off four match points in the fourth set and used its momentum to reverse sweep Montana State 24-26, 18-25, 25-22, 30-28, 15-11 in Viking Pavilion. MSU was led by Thomsen who posted 21 kills, 15 digs, two service aces and two blocks, while recording a .259 attack mark. Also in double-digit kills were Kamps and Siebler with 15 kills apiece. Kamps and middle blocker Greenwald each tallied eight blocks, while Jordan Radick chipped in seven. Lindseth guided MSU in the back row with a team-high 19 digs.

Weber State (114) is the highest ranked Big Sky school in the most recent RPI listing. The Wildcats are followed by Northern Colorado (127), Sacramento State (138), Portland State (178), Montana State (187), Montana (192), Northern Arizona (244), Idaho State (257), Eastern Washington (285), and Idaho (330).
FACTOID OF THE WEEK:

Montana is 8-13 overall and 4-5 in Big Sky action. Last week, the Griz dropped matches at Sacramento State and Portland State. UM was led by Paige Clark and Ellie Scherffius. Clark, a 6-1 junior outside hitter from Idaho Falls, Idaho had 13 kills and 10 digs against Portland State, after putting up 10 kills at Sacramento State. Scherffius, a 6-0 senior middle blocker from Eagle River, Alaska, paced UM against the Hornets with 10 kills and a .643 attack mark. On the season, Clark and Maddie Kremer lead the Griz averaging 3.26 and 2.46 kills per set, respectively. Carly Anderson, a 5-9 senior setter from Mississauga, Ontario, ranks second in the Big Sky averaging 10.16 assists per set. Montana handed MSU a 25-20, 27-25, 25-11 setback on Sept. 29 in Dahlberg Arena in front of 2,237 fans. Clark paced the Griz with 14 kills and seven digs, while Madi Chuhlantseff, a 6-1 junior middle blocker from Salem, Ore., added 10 kills and two blocks. In addition, the product of Parker, Colorado is first in the Big Sky averaging 3.96 kills per set, which is the 39th best average in the country. Thomen's 4.52 points per set are tops in the Big Sky and rank 42nd overall.

As a unit, the Bobcats are third in the Big Sky averaging 35.96 swings per set, which ranks 59th in the nation. MSU is third in BSC play averaging 12.88 kills per contest, which ranks 109th in the country. Senior outside hitter Kira Thomsen, a three-time all-Big Sky Conference selection, is having an impressive final season with the Bobcats. She currently leads the league in kills per set (3.96) and points (4.52). Thomsen's 2.42 digs per set is second on the Bobcat squad, while her .228 attack mark also second best. This season, Thomsen has been in double-digit kills in 16 of 19 matches, including a season-high 28 kills against St. Thomas (MN). She had a 19-match streak of double-figure kills dating back to Oct. 22, 2022, snapped after recording four against Cal on Sept. 15. Last season, Thomsen recorded a career-high 32 kills in MSU's 3-2 win over Portland State. Her 1,431 career kills rank second on MSU's all-time kills chart (22 shy of breaking Diane Terrall's all-time mark) and her 4,131 total career attacks is the most all-time. Thomsen went over the 1,000-career digs mark against Nevada making her tenth member of MSU's 1,000-Dig Club. She is now just one of four players in Montana State history to record 1,000 kills/digs - joining Meggie Malyurek, Stephanie Laya, and Mindy Nowak. On Nov. 18, 2022, Thomsen was named the GameChanger/AVCA Division National Player of the Week (the first in MSU history) after averaging 6.0 kills and 6.4 points per set as MSU knocked off Portland State and Sacramento State. Last week, she totaled 38 kills (4.22) and 21 digs (2.33). Thomsen also recorded two blocks and five aces.
GOTTA DIG IT:
MSU libero Lauren Lindseth ranks seventh in the Big Sky averaging 3.89 saves per game. Last week she totaled 37 (4.11) saves as MSU dropped matches at Portland State and Sacramento State. On Aug. 31, Lindseth recorded a career-high 34 digs against St. Thomas (MN). She has recorded 16 matches in double-digit digs this fall. Last season, Lindseth was in double-digit digs in 22 matches, including a streak of 13 consecutive matches in double-figures. In addition, she went over the 20-dig plateau on nine occasions. Her 475 digs last fall ranks fifth in a single season at MSU. Lindseth earned All-Big Sky Tourney honors after averaging 3.56 digs in two matches, which included 24 digs in MSU's quarterfinal upset over Weber State.
THE MENACE FROM ENNIS:
Jourdain (Klein) Kamps is another Bobcat enjoying an outstanding season to date. She is averaging 2.78 kills per set, while hitting a team-best .271 from the floor. In addition, she is averaging 1.64 digs and 1.03 blocks per contest and has chipped in 11 aces. The product of Ennis, Mont., has been in double-figure kills in 13 of 19 matches, including a season-best 18 kills at Northern Arizona. Last week against Portland State and Sacramento State, she averaged 1.89 kills and 1.33 blocks per set. Kamps moved into sixth on MSU's all-time block assists chart last weekend with 310, while her 326 total career blocks rank tenth all-time. Kamps was a Second Team All-Big Sky pick in the spring of 2021 after averaging 1.49 kills and .97 blocks per set in the shortened 15-match season. Last year, she totaled 242 kills (1.98 kps). Kamps recorded a career-high 23 kills at Eastern Washington and had six matches hitting .300 or better. Kamps also posted 100 blocks, averaging .82 per contest.
LINDSETH LEGACY:
Sophomore libero Lauren Lindseth is part of Bobcat history as one-half of the first mother/daughter duo to play volleyball at MSU. Lindseth's mother - Kelly Modrow (MOD-row) - played for the Blue and Gold from 1992-1996. The native of Minnetonka, Minn., (Hopkins HS) played in 110 matches and 359 sets. In all, Modrow's career totals include: 889 kills, 733 digs, 128 blocks and 87 service aces wearing the No. 2 jersey, as well.

Montana State averaged 2.44 blocks per set last week, led by Jourdain Radick (1.75), Camryn Greenwald (1.44) and Jourdain Kamps (1.33). Sophomore middle blocker Jordan Radick and Kamps rank first and second, respectively on the team, averaging 1.10 and 1.03 blocks per set. As a team, the Bobcats rank fifth in the Big Sky Conference averaging 2.18 bps.
LENDING A HAND:
Junior college transfer Nellie Stevenson is averaging 7.94 assists per set. Last week, the transfer from Feather River (CA) College dished out 59 assists, one ace, 24 digs. Junior setter Audrey Hofer played in eight sets and notched 17 assists. The Helena Capital product also posted 12 digs. As a team, the Bobcat setters rank third in the Big Sky Conference dishing out 11.93 assists per set.
