BOBCAT CLASSIC: This weekend's Bobcat Classic marks the opening of the Montana State volleyball season. MSU hosts the first of two home tournaments during the non-conference portion of its schedule beginning Friday and Saturday in Shroyer Gym. The Bobcats will open tournament play against San Francisco, Friday at 10 a.m., and Grand Canyon at 7 p.m. MSU closes out tournament action with St. Thomas (MN) on Saturday at 1 p.m. Non Montana State matches for the Bobcat Classic include - Friday, 12:30 p.m. St. Thomas vs. Grand Canyon, 4 p.m. San Francisco vs. St. Thomas, and Saturday, 10 a.m. Grand Canyon vs. San Francisco.
CLASSIC CONVERSATION: Montana State is 3-2 in season openers under Daniel Jones. The Bobcats and the Dons meet on Friday for the first time in over 25 years. In its last meeting - Sept. 18, 1993 - San Francisco defeated the Bobcats 3-0. MSU holds a 3-1 advantage in its all-time series with Grand Canyon dating back to the 1990 season. Montana State won the last meeting with Grand Canyon as the Bobcats knocked off the Lopes 3-2 on August 26, 2016, at the Air Force Academy tournament. Saturday's match against St. Thomas will be the first between the two schools. Last fall, the Bobcats went 15-14 overall, finishing fourth in Big Sky Conference play with a 10-6 ledger. San Francisco went 0-25 overall last season and were 0-17 in West Coach Conference play. Grand Canyon posted a 19-7 overall mark during its 2021 fall campaign, finishing second in the west division going 9-5 in WAC action. St. Thomas is coming off its first season at the NCAA Division I level where it went 3-25 overall and 2-16 in Summit League play.
BOBCAT BITES: The Bobcats return three Second Team all-Big Sky performers in Kira Thomsen, Emma Pence and Jordan Radick. Radick, a Bozeman High product, the league's freshman of the year last fall. Thomsen returns as one the Big Sky's top offensive threats, while Pence led the Big Sky in blocking. Radick finished her first year with the Cats leading the team with a .306 attack mark. Also returning is all-conference performer Jourdain Klein along with outside hitters Avery Turnage, Courtney Weatherby and Kelly Cross, setters Audrey Hofer and Delaney Shearan, middle blocker Kaycee O'Dell, and defensive specialists Shayla Webber and Maci Abshier.

* Kira Thomsen is MSU's top returning offensive threat after averaging 3.03 kps last fall
* Thomsen's current career kills total stands at 895, with her career dig accumulation is at 726
