BOZEMAN, Mont. - Montana State sophomore Emma Pence has been named the #BigSkyVB Defensive Player of the Week. The Carson City, Nevada product was instrumental in the Bobcats' sweep of Idaho State over the weekend- both in five sets.
Pence averaged an impressive 1.70 blocks per set. She posted nine blocks on Saturday night, averaging 1.80 per set. On Sunday evening, she registered eight blocks for an average of 1.60 per contest.
On the season, Pence's 1.50 blocks per set leads the Big Sky Conference and ranks 18th in the nation.
"Emma made huge strides in her game during the lengthy delay in the start of the season due to the coronavirus pandemic," said MSU head coach Daniel Jones. "She has done a ton of work in the gym, watching film and on the court. You can see that paying off in her play, and with the recognition she is receiving."
Pence received her second weekly honor of the season after being honored for her offensive play on February 9.
"I'm really proud of Emma as this individual award is reflective of the team achievement," Jones added. "She wouldn't be getting this recognition if it wasn't for all the work that goes in from everyone in the practice gym on a daily basis."
Senior Hannah Scott was MSU's offensive player of the week after averaging 4.40 kills per set, while hitting .287 as the Bobcats swept the Bengals.
Montana State will host Portland State on Saturday and Sunday at 5 p.m. in Shroyer Gym.
