COACH JONES SAYS...
"Kira comes with a high level of talent and a high level of skill. She's been in the USA volleyball system in the high-performance program for several years. She hits the ball very hard and has a really good passing touch. Kira is a competitor who is going to raise the level of play in our gym. She's a great person who wants to compete at the highest level she can, and she knows we're heading in the right direction and wants to help us get there."
PERSONAL:
She is the daughter of Mike and Nancy Thomsen.
BOBCAT Q & A:
What was it during the recruiting process that eventually made you decide Montana State was where you wanted to play and continue your education? During my recruiting process I built a strong relationship with everyone on the coaching staff and really liked where Coach Jones thought this program was headed and the goals he had for the future, and ultimately decided I wanted to be a part of that!
Bozeman is such a great volleyball community and MSU has consistently been at the top of the Big Sky Conference in attendance. What would you like to tell Bobcat Nation about yourself as a person and as a player? I am a very competitive person and player and can't wait to be around Bobcat Nation and their awesome energy this upcoming season.
Can you tell us a little bit about your family? I am the daughter of Mike and Nancy Thomsen. My parents both attended the University of Iowa where my dad played men's volleyball, and then later became a golf pro. I am the oldest of three kids; little sister (14) also plays volleyball and is looking to play collegiately, and my little brother (12) plays lacrosse.
When you're not playing volleyball what do you like to do? When I'm not playing volleyball, I enjoy skiing and being outdoors.
What is your hidden talent? My dad says I can throw a football as well as most boys.
What is your ultimate career goal? Professional beach volleyball or a fitness model.
Who is/are your role-model(s) and why? Gabrielle Reece because being a model and a volleyball player she embodies being beautiful as your true self and is a role model to all female athletes.
What's the best thing you've experienced playing volleyball so far in your career? Training at the USA training center as part of the US youth development team.
What makes you laugh or smile? Anything, I can't keep a straight face for very long so I'm smiling a lot.
If you could trade places with anyone for 24-hours, who would it be and why? I would want to be Tia Blanco for a day because she's a pro surfer and lives an adventurous life and I think that would be fun to just let go of all responsibilities for a day.
What are you looking forward to the most at Montana State University? I can't wait to just enjoy the college experience.
