Bobcats Snag Crucial League Win Against Sacramento State in Men's Tennis

Bottom of the order comes through in the clutch
BOZEMAN, Montana – The bottom three ladder positions entered Montana State's Saturday showdown against Sacramento State with a record of 1-8 in Big Sky matches this season, but that trio broke out in a big way Saturday as the Bobcats earned a crucial 5-2 win in Bozeman.
After Joaquin Espinoze earned MSU's first singles win at No. 3, a a 7-5, 6-1 decision over Dom Miller, the Chrisian Damgaard Qvist earned a win at No. 4 singles and then Creel Smith's first conference singles win sealed the match for MSU with a win at No. 5 singles. "Those guys were really good, J (Espinoza) was phenomenal, it was a good team effort," said Bobcat coach Jared Burnham.
The Bobcats got the day started in the right direction by winning the doubles point. Smith and Espinoza combined to get a win at No. 2 doubles, and in short order Damgaard Qvist teamed with Grant Wood to grab that point. Burnham said things began at the beginning in doubles play. "We served better than I've seen us serve maybe in the seven years I've been here," he said. "It was the best serving we've done. I think they were pretty focused. "
Montana State raised its record to 3-9 overall, 2-3 in Big Sky play with the win. Sacramento State falls to 6-11 overall, 4-3 in the league. The team's win Saturday leads into Sunday's crucial showdown against Idaho State. MSU meets the Bengals at 10 am in the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center.
