Bobcats face Idaho in league tourney opener
BOZEMAN, Mont. (April 22, 2026) – Montana State opens Big Sky Conference Men's Tennis Tournament action on Thursday, when the Bobcats face Idaho at 9 am MDT in Phoenix.
The Bobcats and Idaho each enter the post-season with 3-4 league records, finishing tied for fourth. MSU (7-12 overall) receives the fourth seed after beating he Vandals head-to-head during the regular season. The Cats escaped Moscow with a 4-3 win on March 21.
"This will be a fun match," second-year Bobcats head coach Mateus Ceolin said. "We are focused on the one match we have in front of us, and that's the only match that is guaranteed. Our goal is to give everything we have in that one match and see what happens from there."
Idaho won the doubles point and then took No. 1 singles to grab a 2-0 lead in the earlier meeting between the two, but Montana State rebounded tenaciously. Andre Stewart won at the second ladder position then Oumar Diallo captured a win at No. 3 to square the match. After the Vandals won at No. 4, Eddie Biss won in straight sets at the fifth position and Max Calaquian clinched the win with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 6.
"Idaho is a great, well-coached team. They have a lot of experience. We will have to compete extremely well if we want to extend our season."
