Familiar Faces Lead Bobcats in Final Day of Utah/Weber State Spring Classic

Montana State's usual standouts had the top performances of the day to close out the Utah/Weber State Spring Classic
OGDEN, Utah – Montana State's usual standouts had the top performances of the day to close out the Utah/Weber State Spring Classic on Saturday, April 7, at Weber State's Stewart Stadium.
McKenna Ramsay, Kelsi Lasota, Amanda Jaynes and Calvin Root earned first-place finishes to lead the MSU men's track and field teams at the Weber State-hosted portion of the meet.
Ramsay and Jaynes each swept their individual appearances during the two-day meet. Ramsay completed the 200-meter run in less than 25 seconds, pacing a Bobcat contingent of Courtney Stromme, Taylor Buschy, Elisabeth Krieger and Hailey Phillips that went 1-7-9-10-11. Jaynes continued her reign by taking first place in the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.21.
Lasota put together two solid performances on Saturday. The junior finished first in the 5,000 by crossing the line in 17:28.82 while also earning runner-up in the 1,500 with mark of 4:43.52. Lasota led a Bobcat pack of Trisha Carlson (4:43.73), Anna French (4:48.31) and Samantha Kelderman (4:49.75) that took four of the top nine spots in the 1,500.
Root earned the Bobcat men's team's lone first-place showing on the second day of events. He had the top throw in the hammer with a toss of 191-01 (58.25m).
Kyle Douglass, Cameron Carroll, Mitch Horning and Anthony Schmalz picked up top-three finishes for the MSU men's squad.
Douglass took second in the discus with a throw of 163-07 (49.86m), while Alec Nehring (150-10) finished sixth in the event and Root (149-04) placed eighth. Carroll led MSU in the 1,500 with a second-place finish in a time of 3:54.01 and was followed by Chris Bianchini who took ninth by coming in at 4:01.18. Horning placed second in 200 by crossing the line in just under 22 seconds and Schmalz finished third overall in the 3,000 steeplechase with his time of 10:03.92.
MSU's Aidan Pedersen had a fifth-place finish in the high jump, Morgan Evans took 10th in the women's 100 hurdles, while the Bobcat men's 4x400 relay of Christopher Lange, Horning, Parker Walton and Jadin Casey had the second-fastest mark in the event at 3:19.23.
Brookelyn Palin was the top finisher in the women's throwing events, placing 12th and 13th in the discus and hammer, respectively.
The Montana State track and field team sends athletes to multiple events next weekend. Several Bobcats will travel to California to compete over a two-day span at the Triton Invitational from April 13-14, while the remaining athletes will travel to Missoula for the Montana Open on April 14.
