The Montana State women's tennis team will close out its Big Sky Conference season hosting Eastern Washington, Idaho and Northern Colorado this weekend in the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center.
Montana State (5-13, 2-6) will open play against Eastern Washington (7-10, 4-3), Friday, April 13 at 4 p.m. MSU faces three-time defending Big Sky champion Idaho (9-6, 6-1) on Saturday at 10 a.m., followed by Northern Colorado (5-11, 1-7) on Sunday at 10 a.m. Sunday's match with the Bears will be Senior Day as the Bobcats celebrate four-year letterwinner Angelina Philippova.
"Finishing the season with three consecutive home matches makes for an exciting weekend for our team," said MSU head coach Jon Reeves. "We have a tough weekend ahead of us, starting with Eastern Washington. They are proving to be better than their results from one year ago. Idaho is a very solid team and we expect a tough battle with Northern Colorado, as well."
Philippova, a product of Astrakhan, Russia, has paced the Bobcats this season with a 9-7 overall mark. Last weekend, she moved-up to No. 1 singles, after posting a 6-0 mark in league play at Nos. 2, 3 and 4 singles. Philippova had a seven-match win streak snapped at Weber State last Saturday.
Sophomore transfer Laura Mary is on a two-match win streak after defeating WSU's Caitlin Herb (6-3, 6-2) and Idaho State's Huibre-Mare Botes (7-5, 6-3). On the season Mary is 8-10 overall and 4-4 in conference action.
"Our team has had many opportunities this year to finish out individual and team matches," Reeves said. "We're learning from those opportunities and with their maturity will begin to put them into action."
