Bobcats set to return home on Friday
POCATELLO, Idaho – The Montana State women's tennis team suffered a 6-1 defeat at the hands of Idaho State in Pocatello, Idaho, on Wednesday.
Lola Bean earned the Bobcats' lone point of the day after her opponent retired on court five, wrapping up the road portion of Montana State's regular season. The Cats will return to Bozeman for three home matches to conclude regular season play, with the first match set for Friday, April 3, against Northern Arizona.
"We battled until the end today, but Idaho State came up with good tennis in the big moments," Montana State head coach Hailey Barrett said. "We have a great opportunity to bounce back quickly against Northern Arizona at home on Friday."
Idaho State took the early lead by claiming the doubles point to start the match. The Bengals' Asem Shoybek and Sydney Morris posted a 6-1 win over Lola Bean and Kavya Khirwar on court three before Veronika Zarovna and Stefanya Shalakhova defeated Anna Wise and Terezie Stverakova, 6-3, on court one. Angel Bean and Nia Gelashvili trailed the Bengals' Millie Day and Emmy Richards, 4-2, on court two before the match was abandoned.
Lola Bean posted Montana State's lone victory in singles, earning a court-five victory over Morris. She took the first set, 6-3, before Morris evened the match with a 6-0 win in the second set. Bean led the third set, 1-0, when Morris retired from the match to give Bean the win. The Bengals took the other five points to secure the match as Richards defeated Stverakova, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 singles and Millie Day, Shalakhova, and Shoybek posted wins over Wise, Angel Bean, and Gelashvili, respectively on courts one through three. Montana State's Khirwar and Idaho State's Zarovna were knotted at one set apiece before Khirwar retired in the first set to give the Bengals the final point of the match.
The Bobcats will open their final home stretch of the season on Friday, April 3, at 10 a.m., facing Northern Arizona at the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center.
