On Further Review: Bobcat Track & Field Rounds Out Season With New Top 10 Marks

The Bobcats' men's and women's squads wrapped up the conference meet with third and fifth-place finishes, respectively. Nine individuals captured either a silver or bronze medal and all four MSU relays earned podium appearances.
The Montana State track and field teams completed their indoor seasons at the 2018 Big Sky Conference Championships inside of the J. Lawrence Walkup Skydome on Saturday, Feb. 24, on the campus of Northern Arizona University.
The Bobcats' men's and women's squads wrapped up the conference meet with third and fifth-place finishes, respectively. Nine individuals captured either a silver or bronze medal and all four MSU relays earned podium appearances.
A total of nine all-time top 10 program marks were altered or established during the meet.
While MSU's 4x400 relays put a cap on the Big Sky Championships, they also may have been the highlight of the weekend for the Bobcats.
The men's relay of Christopher Lange, Mitch Horning, Parker Walton and Jadin Casey completed a converted time of 3 minutes, 13.77 seconds, for a runner-up finish. That time set a new school record that topped the previous mark of 3:14.48 that had been held since 1990 by Tim Frietz, Brad Knapp, Perry Donnafield and Dave Creger.
The Bobcat women's relay wasn't going to be outdone. The combination of Taylor Buschy, McKenna Ramsay, Elisabeth Krieger and Amanda Jaynes completed a converted time of 3:44.34. That mark moved them to second all-time in the program record book, trailing a time set by Chantel Jaeger, Paige Squire, Iris Hardarson and Sonia Antar in 2014 by just .18 seconds.
In all, MSU's teams combined for 13 all-conference performances. The men's squad had six individuals earn all-Big Sky Conference accolades, while the women's team had three.
Cameron Carroll (800), Wyatt Thompson-Siporen (pole vault), Kyle Douglass (shot put) and Calvin Root (weight throw) earned silver medals for the Bobcat men. Noah Martin (heptathlon) and Alec Nehring (shot put) received bronze medals as well as MSU's distance medley relay of Riley Collins, Lange, Samuel Bloom and Diego Leon.
Amanda Jaynes (60 hurdles) and Kelsi Lasota (3,000) collected silver medals for the Bobcat women. Jaynes earned her highest finish indoors as she completed her final season of eligibility. Lasota made her first appearance at the Big Sky meet as a Bobcat and narrowly picked up all-Big Sky honors in the 5,000 as well.
Layne Oliver entered the meet outside of scoring points for the Bobcats, yet she crossed the line in a lifetime-best mark of 4:58.73 en route to a bronze in the mile. She was joined by the distance medley Lexi Kyro, Hailey Phillips, Ellen Brooks and Trisha Carlson as they finished third to pick up six points for MSU.

Casey stayed put in the 400 at fourth in MSU history, but did improve his lifetime best to 47.36 in a fourth-place finish in the event.
Sophomore Alec Nehring continued his ascent up the shot put, moving to eighth with a toss of 56-11.25. Chris Bianchini stayed put at eighth in the 800, but improved his time to 1:51.23 in a fourth-place finish at the Big Sky meet.
Bobcat sophomores Noah Martin and Caleb Neth provided points for MSU in the men's heptathlon. Martin moved to seventh in the event with his personal-best total of 4,977 points, while Caleb Neth stayed at ninth behind his 4,817 point-total achieved in Flagstaff.
On the women's side, senior Taylor Buschy made her first individual appearance on the all-time list. Her preliminary time of 55.89 in the 400 placed her ninth in the women's record book.
The Montana State track and field teams return as a full contingent when the outdoor season begins. The Bobcats are scheduled to make their outdoor debut from March 30-31 in the Al Manual Northwest Dual Meet Invitational hosted by Montana in Missoula.
