Bobcats Volleyball Team Adds Three High School Standouts to Program

As the Montana State volleyball season came to a close on Saturday night, Bobcat head coach continued his efforts to move the program forward with the announcement of three high school standouts signing National Letters of Intent to join the MSU squad in the fall of 2018, Tuesday morning.

Inking with the Cats are Emma West, a 6-3 outside hitter from Tempe, Ariz., Serena Caspersen, a 6-1 outside hitter from Queen Creek, Ariz., and Kaycee O'Dell, a 6-2 middle blocker from Glendale, Ariz.
West, who preps at Corona del Sol High School, recently guided her squad to an Arizona 6A runner-up finish. The Aztecs posted a 41-3 overall mark. West notched 240 kills, averaging 2.3 per set. In addition, she hit .246 from the floor. West recorded 845 kills and 208 blocks during her tenure at Corona del Sol.
As a junior, West helped the Aztecs to the 6A state title. In all, Corona del Sol went 126-42 overall during her career. For her efforts, she was named to the 2016 Arizona 6A All-State Honorable mention squad and garnered most improved varsity player in her freshman season. She was also an All-Tempe City team honoree and an all-region performer, as well.
"Emma comes in to the Bobcat program with her most experience on right-side," Jones said. "She is a big, physical kid. I was really impressed with her during the club season. She took some big time swings in some big time matches. Emma hits a really heavy ball and is going to be a force at the net. She's really bought in to being a Bobcat and brings a fiery, competitive spirit that will add value to our gym."
She is the daughter of Joe and April West and played with Club One based out of Chandler, Arizona.
Caspersen, who preps at Queen Creek High School, helped guide her squad to a 27-16 mark this past season. Queen Creek was the No. 5 seed in the Arizona 5A state tournament and defeated No. 1 Chaparral to advance to the championship match, where it lost 3-1 to Sunnyslope. In all, the Bulldogs posted an 83-65 record during her tenure at QCHS. A four-year letterwinner, she garnered 2016-17 Victory with Honor accolades. As a member of Club One, she was part of the 16 USA championship team.
"Serena is a big lefty that can jump really well," Jones said. "She's got a fast arm, can set an intimidating block and has good ball control. She's played at a pretty high level high school and with Club One.
She is the daughter of Mark and Danielle Caspersen.
O'Dell, who preps at Cactus High School, also guided her squad to the Arizona state tournament, where the No. 2-ranked Cobras bowed out in the semifinal round to eventual 4A state champion Salpointe Catholic. CHS posted a 16-1 mark this fall and went 26-8 during O'Dell's two-year stint with the team. O'Dell played club ball with Spiral Volleyball Academy. She is a national Honor Society student.
"Kaycee is extremely athletic and very quick laterally," Jones said. "She jumps really well and her enthusiasm will burn the gym down. Kaycee is passionate about playing ball and wants to be on the court regardless of what position she is playing. She comes from a small high school and kind of went unnoticed because she didn't play at a big club for a long time. We kind of feel like we've stolen her as she's a really athletic kid who could easily play at a high level. Kaycee's going to come in and play at a high level for us and we're super excited to have her join our program."

"We're really excited about the class as a whole, as they bring a lot of size and high competitive background to our program," Jones said. "They are also solid student-athletes who will bring another level of fire to the gym that we need to help us continue to grow this program in the right direction.
