Colorado Downs Bobcat Spikers in Four Sets

Montana State had four players in double-figure kills and the Bobcats gave Pac-12 foe Colorado all it could handle as the Buffaloes held on for a 25-18, 18-25, 25-21, 25-22 victory, Friday afternoon in the Omni Invitational co-hosted by CU and Air Force.

Senior Natalee Godfrey led Montana State (2-6) with 15 kills, followed by Eli Svisco 12, Loni Kreun 11 and Natalie Passeck 10.
Colorado (5-4) did most of its damage at the net as the Buffs out-blocked the Bobcats 17-4. CU also out-hit Montana State .264 to .191.
Defensively, MSU was led by Kasey Altman with 14 digs, followed by Passeck 12, and Katie Harrington 10. Harrington dished out 42 assists.
Colorado jumped out to a 16-9 lead in the opening set, before MSU closed to within 18-14 on a Svisco kill. The Buffs finished the set on a 7-4 run, taking the game on a kill by Katelyn Cuff.
In the second stanza, CU stormed to a 5-0 advantage, before MSU rallied to even the score at 16-all. Kreun gave MSU an 18-17 lead following an ace as MSU rattled off seven straight points to open up a 23-17 cushion. Montana State won the set following a CU hitting error. MSU's run was sparked by Godfrey with four kills as the Bobcats out-hit the Buffaloes .379 to .222.
MSU maintained its momentum coming out of intermission taking an 8-5 lead on a block by Kreun and Godfrey. CU stopped Montana State's energy with a 7-0 run and kept its lead winning the set on a block.
Colorado held the lead for most of the final stanza, before MSU tied the score at 18-all on a Godfrey kill. The score was tied twice down the stretch before the Buffaloes pulled away at 21-all with a 4-2 run.
Gabby Simpson led Colorado with a game-high 21 kills.
Montana State will open its Big Sky Conference and home season next Thursday, Sept. 24 when it hosts Idaho State in Shroyer Gym.
