Former Bobcat Jennifer Lundquist was the starting setter as the Canadian National Team knocked off Mexico to qualify for the 2014 World Championships, Monday night.
Former Montana State volleyball standout Jennifer Lundquist (2009-12) paced the Canadian National Team to a straight set victory over Mexico capturing the gold medal in Group S as part of the NORCEA Women's World Championship Qualifier, Monday night at Hersey Centre.
The Canadians qualified for the World Championships in Italy Sept. 23 – Oct. 12.
"I couldn't be more excited for Jen," MSU Head Coach Kyle Weindel said. "It's always an honor to be able to play for your country and compete at the highest level. The World Championships will showcase the world's best volleyball players and to have a Bobcat there is quite an accomplishment."
Lundquist, who captained the Montana State squad to a 15-14 mark as a senior and its first Big Sky tournament appearance since 2005, posted a team-high 17 digs as the starting setter guiding Canada to a 25-16, 25-19, 25-17 decision over Mexico in Mississauga, Ontario – just outside of Toronto.
The current Canadian National Team has a Big Sky Conference flavor as former Eastern Washington standout Brittney Page and Montana record-holder Jaimie Thibeault are also part of the squad.
Lundquist, a native of Surrey, British Columbia, has played in over twenty international matches. The Canadian National Team is currently ranked 20th in the World.
