Veterans Pace Bobcat Spikers in Blue-Gold Scrimmage

Sophomores Eli Svisco and Natalee Godfrey paced the Montana State volleyball team in its annual Blue-Gold scrimmage, Sunday afternoon in Shroyer Gym. The Gold team posted a 25-16, 25-19, 22-25 victory.

Despite being in their second year in the program, veterans Svisco and Godfrey stood out amongst a roster that includes eight freshmen. Svisco, an outside hitter from Castle Rock, Colo., recorded 10 kills, while hitting an impressive .625 from the floor, while Godfrey, a middle blocker from Eugene, Ore., added a match-high 11 kills and three blocks.
"Eli and Natalee know what is expected and they did a nice job of setting the tone for the match," said second-year Kyle Weindel. "I thought we came out a little tentative. This is the first time during preseason that we have gone to 25 points over the course of three sets."
A pair of freshmen outside hitters also added to the Bobcat attack. Loni Kreun and Kennadie Clute tallied 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Freshman setter Anna Sykora dished out a match-high 27 assists, while Leigh Stonerook posted 23 assists for the Blue squad. Freshman middle blocker Christie Markowski led both sides with five blocks.
"It was a great opportunity for our freshmen to get in front of a crowd and go through the paces of match-day," Weindel said. "We certainly have things to work on this week in preparation for the season-opening tournament at Wyoming."
The Bobcats will open its season on Friday, Aug. 30 against Idaho at the Wyoming Tournament.
