Former Montana State volleyball standout Jennifer Lundquist is one of twenty-four players named to the 2013 Canadian Women’s A National Team, which will compete in three international events this summer, including the Pan Am Cup in Lima, Peru, the World University Games in Kazan, Russia, and the NORCECA Championships in Omaha, Nebraska.

“It has been a dream of mine to play volleyball on a national scale and represent my country since I began playing volleyball in grade 7,” Lundquist said. “I played club and high school volleyball for five years and was very fortunate to be given the opportunity to play at Montana State University. Playing for MSU provided me with an environment perfect for developing as an athlete on and off the court. Many people supported me throughout my college experience and helped me push through the difficult times.”
The Senior Women's A National Team Program identifies, selects and trains athletes who have potential and demonstrated international skill and experience to represent Canada at the elite level. Lundquist has the potential to earn a spot on the Team Canada roster and a berth into the 2014 FIVB World Championship, the 2016 Rio Olympics, the 2020 Olympics, as well as success at the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto.
Last fall, the Surrey, British Columbia native guided the Bobcats to 15-15 overall mark and its first winning season since 2004. In addition, MSU posted a 9-11 Big Sky Conference record and made its first postseason appearance since 2005. A four-time All-Big Sky Conference academic pick, Lundquist dished out 1,247 assists and added 279 digs.
Following graduation on May 4, Lundquist packed her bags and headed directly for Winnipeg, Manitoba for the tryout. “Competition was high and drills were very intense but I loved every moment of it,” Lundquist said. “That first Saturday, after two 3-hour sessions of volleyball, the head Coach, Lupo, pulled me into the hallway and told me that he wanted to keep me around all summer and that I had made the team. It was easily one of the coolest moments of my life, being given the opportunity to fulfill one of my lifelong dreams and ambitions.”
First up for Lundquist will be playing in the Pan American Volleyball Cup in Lima, Peru, which started on Monday evening and will go through June 16. The Canadian National Team will be in Pool B along with Costa Rica, Cuba and Peru.
Note: Cuba rallied from a 2-0 deficit on Monday night to defeat Canada 21-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-20,15-13.
