Montana State newcomer Kennadie Clute was named the Big Sky Conference co-Freshman of the Year for her outstanding play this fall. The Spokane, Wash., native becomes the first Bobcat player to win the award since Kamber Kelly achieved the honor in 2001.
In addition, Clute was named to the All-Big Sky Conference honorable mention team.
"It's an incredible honor for Kennadie," said second-year MSU head coach Kyle Weindel. "She worked hard to be as successful as she could be. Kennadie is an incredible player that knows the game well and did a nice job learning and picking up new techniques. However, she couldn't be where she is today without her teammates. It was their ability to get digs and pass the ball that put her in a position to get kills and do what she does. We're excited for the next three years, and what she brings to the team."
Clute finished her rookie season with 513 kills and 560.5 points, both marks led the Big Sky Conference this fall. The 513 kills are the second most in a single-season at Montana State. Clute was also the leading freshman kill and point producer in the nation at the NCAA Division I level.
Clute also recorded 227 digs, 46 blocks and 22 service aces.
She shared the award with Ann Pioske of North Dakota.
