The Montana State volleyball team made quick work of Quinnipiac in the opening match of the Akron Invitational, Friday afternoon. The MSU Bobcats handed the Quinnipiac Bobcats a 25-20, 25-9, 25-15 setback in just over an hour of action.

“Our offense was very efficient overall,” said MSU first-year coach Kyle Weindel. “Jenn Lundquist did a nice job setting our three pin hitters. It was a very a balanced attack.”

For the fourth consecutive match, Montana State (3-1) received a double-double from junior Sarah Horton. The Fresno, Calif., native recorded a match-high 12 kills and a team-best 12 digs. Macy Page and Eli Svisco added eight kills, apiece.

“The past few weeks we've work on being efficient,” Weindel said. “We had our best performance from the service line and were aggressive in hitting our zones. We didn't give away too many points.”

The Bobcats served up a season-high 12 aces in the victory, including a career-high five winners from Taylar Barney. Barney, a senior from St. George, Utah also led the Bobcats at the net with a match-high four blocks.

Lundquist ended the match with 23 assists, six digs and three blocks, while MSU libero Nicole Baker added eight saves.

For the match, Montana State hit .279 from the field, while holding Quinnipiac to .059. MSU also held advantages in kills, assists, service aces, digs and blocking.

Montana State was scheduled to play two matches on Saturday; however, Southeastern Louisiana had to cancel due to travel issues stemming from Hurricane Isaac. MSU will face Akron at 3 p.m. (MST) on Saturday.
