After a successful opening weekend at the Cougar Classic at SIU-Edwardsville, the Montana State volleyball squad will once again be on the road, this time participating in the Akron Invitational in Akron, Ohio. Due to travel conditions from Hurricane Isaac the Southeastern Louisiana volleyball team canceled their appearance this weekend. The Bobcats will now play just two matches, beginning with Quinnipiac (0-3) on Friday, August 31 at 2 p.m. (MST) in Rhodes Arena. MSU will finish action on Saturday, Sept. 1 vs. Akron (1-3) at 5 p.m.
OFF TO A GOOD START:
Last season, MSU dropped its first 15 matches and came up winless in August and September. What a difference a year makes as Montana State opened its 2012 campaign going 2-1 at the SIU-Edwardsville Cougar Classic. In fact, MSU came up a few points shy of going 3-0 on the weekend. The Bobcats defeated SIUE (3-1) and Western Illinois (3-2), before falling to Santa Clara (3-2) in the fifth set 15-13. Santa Clara was a NCAA Division I Final Four program within the past decade.
TOP 'CAT:
Sarah Horton had a record-breaking performance last weekend. The Fresno native amassed 60 kills and 36 digs. In addition, Horton had three double-doubles and pounded out a career-high 26 kills in MSU's win over WIU.
