THE SEASON OPENER:
A new era in Montana State volleyball will begin on Friday, August 24 when first-year MSU mentor Kyle Weindel will coach his first match in the Blue and Gold at the Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville Cougar Classic against the host school in the Vadalabene Center at 6 p.m. MST. The Bobcats will conclude tournament play on Saturday when they face Western Illinois at 9 a.m., followed with Santa Clara at 4 p.m..
ON A ROLL...:
A lot of people say it is only the national champion that ends its season with a win. That's not true in the case of the Bobcat volleyball team, which concluded its 2011 campaign with three straight wins. In addition, MSU also won nine of its last ten sets. Montana State finished the 2011 slate with a 6-23 overall mark and 4-12 in Big Sky Conference ledger. MSU's league record was its best since the 2005 squad went 7-7 in Big Sky action.
ALL ABOUT BOB (CATS):
For head coach Kyle Weindel the secret to this season's success is pretty simple. “We need to manage our errors,” Weindel stated. “The big thing is to eliminate our errors and turn them into points.” The Bobcats return seven players, including two starters and libero Nicole Baker from last year's team. Sarah Horton returns as MSU's top offensive threat, while Baker, who established a single-season digs mark in 2011, anchors the MSU defense.
