Weindel Rounds Out Coaching Staff with Hiring of Josh Pickard

Montana State volleyball coach Kyle Weindel has completed his inaugural coaching staff with the hiring off Josh Pickard. Pickard joins fifth-year assistant coach Jenifer Sulewski as part of the Bobcat brain trust.
Montana State volleyball coach Kyle Weindel has completed his inaugural coaching staff with the hiring off Josh Pickard. Pickard joins fifth-year assistant coach Jenifer Sulewski as part of the Bobcat brain trust.
Pickard, a 2002 graduate of Michigan State with a degree in international relations, served last season as a volunteer assistant with Weindel at Ohio University. Pickard was responsible for team travel, player skill development, scouting and working with the outside hitters and defensive specialists.
Pickard helped guide five Bobcats to postseason honors, including two First-Team Mid-American Conference performers; one second-team honoree; and two all-freshmen recipients.
“After spending the past season with Josh at Ohio it became an easy choice on who I wanted to add to my staff,” Weindel said. “With our previous relationship, Josh knows the type of things on the court I like to do and is familiar with my style of play. He brings a wealth of experience at both the club and collegiate levels. His level of intelligence and attention to detail are very desirable qualities that I feel will help the program become successful in many aspects.”
From 2007-11, Pickard was a full-time staff member with the Premier Volleyball Academy in Maumee, Ohio. He helped guide the 2007 squad to a third place finish at the AAU National Championships.
Pickard began his coaching career as the first assistant at Olivet College, in Olivet, Michigan, from 2005-06. With the Comets, he helped develop and implement the team's offensive schemes as well as assist with day-to-day operations of the program.
Outside of volleyball, Pickard served three years as a legislative assistant for Michigan State Rep. Barb Vander Veen from 2003-2006.
As a student at Michigan State, Pickard was a member of the Spartan Men's Volleyball club from 1998-2002.
Pickard has already started his duties at Montana State, where he will serve as defensive coordinator, travel coordinator, and camp director. He will also assist in training all positions.
