Montana State Volleyball Squad Opens 2011 Fall Drills

Fourth-year Montana State head volleyball coach Sara Schaub welcomed 14 Bobcat volleyball players to the first preseason practice of the fall, Tuesday afternoon in Shroyer Gym.
Last season, the Bobcats went 10-19 overall and recorded its highest win total since the 2005 season.
“It feels great to be back in the gym” Schaub said. “I feel we are more prepared then ever. Our players worked hard over the summer and had a great spring season and we're ready to go.”
Four seniors will guide the Bobcats, including Big Sky Conference Honorable Mention pick Rachelle Allen and the 2010 Big Sky Conference Newcomer of the Year Alex Penewell.
Allen, an outside hitter from Longmont, Colo., returns as MSU's top offensive threat after leading the team with 307 kills last fall. Penewell, a middle blocker from Newport Beach, Calif., paced the Bobcats at the net with a team-high 77 total blocks.
“Our seniors are doing a nice job of leading the team,” Schaub said. “They worked hard in the offseason and they kept everyone connected to the program.”
Montana State will continue with two-a-day drills for the next two weeks and will open its season at the Georgia Southern Invitational, Aug. 26-27 in Statesboro.
