Bobcat Spikers Fall on Final Day of Georgia Southern Tourney

Despite having one of its best back-to-back matches offensively in recent years, the Montana State volleyball team dropped two matches on the final day of the Georgia Southern-Spring Hill Suites Invitational, Saturday afternoon.
Despite having one of its best back-to-back matches offensively in recent years, the Montana State volleyball team dropped two matches on the final day of the Georgia Southern-Spring Hill Suites Invitational, Saturday afternoon.
In its first match of the day, Montana State (0-4) hit a season-best .319 from the field, but suffered a 25-22, 25-20, 23-25, 25-19 loss to Stephen F. Austin.
SFA held a 17-10 advantage in the opening set, before MSU rallied to close to within 23-22 on a Nicole Baker service ace. The Lumberjacks won the set on back-to-back kills.
In the second set, the Lumberjacks broke out to another 17-10 advantage and held on for the win. The third set featured nine ties, before the Bobcats snapped a 22-22 tie with kills from Sarah Horton and Alex Penewell.
SFA owned the final set, notching five straight points to take a 15-10 margin on the way to the match victory.
Montana State was paced in the loss by Horton with 16 kills, a .444 attack mark and six digs. In all, four MSU players hit above .400, including Penewell (.583), Jennifer Lundquist (.533) and freshman Kasey Schlatter (.467). Lundquist also dished out 37 assists and added 11 digs.
In the tournament finale' it was all Georgia Southern as the Eagles handed the Bobcats a 25-18, 25-23, 25-21 setback.
Montana State was led in the loss by Rachelle Allen with 12 kills and eight digs.
MSU will compete at the Chicagoland Tournament next weekend.
