Three Montana State volleyball players were recognized by the Big Sky Conference coaches for their efforts this season.
Three Montana State volleyball players were recognized by the Big Sky Conference coaches for their efforts this season.
Senior Meghan Albiston and junior Rachelle Allen garnered Big Sky honorable mention honors, while Alex Penewell was voted the league's top newcomer.
Albiston, who has been MSU's starting libero for the past four years, was just one of two defensive specialists named to either the first, second or honorable mention squad. The Idaho Falls native racked up 421 digs and averaged 4.01 saves per game.
Albiston finished her career with 1577 saves, which ranks second all-time at MSU and tenth in the Big Sky Conference history.
Allen, an outside hitter from Longmont, Colo., posted a team-best 307 kills, while also recording 306 digs, 31 blocks and 23 service aces. Allen ranked among the conference's top ten in kills per set and points throughout the season.
Alex Penewell, who sat out last season and transferred from the University of Colorado, averaged 1.46 kills and a team-best .73 blocks per game. She also was fourth on the squad with a .212 attack mark.
Penewell was MSU's first Big Sky Newcomer of the Year since Ana Schanze won the honor in 2002.
