MSU looks for road breakthrough
BOZEMAN, Mont. (March 20, 2026) – Montana State returns to the hardcourt on Saturday, when the Bobcat men's tennis team plays at Idaho at 1 pm MT.
The match is the first for Montana State (4-9 overall, 0-1 Big Sky) in a week, since playing six matches in three different states over a 15-day span. The respite, said Bobcats head coach Mateus Ceolin, benefited his team. "We had a very good week of work," he said.
The Vandals carry an 8-10 overall record, and a 2-0 league mark, into Friday's conference contest against Montana. Idaho owns home league wins over Idaho State (5-2) and Sacramento State (7-0).
Chetanna Amadike a senior who earned All-Big Sky honors in both singles and doubles a year ago, leads the Vandals with an 11-5 singles mark, including 11-3 at the top ladder spot. Sophomore Gabriel Moroder owns an 8-7 record, primarily at No. 4 singles.
"They are a team that like to play aggressive tennis," Ceolin said. "They like to serve big and be aggressive on the first ball, and they transition to the net extremely well. For us to be successful, we will need to play with good depth and do a good job with passing shots. We will need to create our own opportunities and play with courage to take them."
Montana State won one match on its far-ranging road trip, beating DePaul in Boise while dropping matches to league rival Portland State and regional powers Utah and Boise State. Ceolin said Saturday's match at Idaho and next week's contest at Idaho State offers MSU the opportunity to break through.
"We're working hard to get a win on the road," he said. "We're looking forward to these opportunities."
