Montana State opens spring break trip at Portland State on Sunday
BOZEMAN, Mont. --- The Montana State women's tennis team is set to compete in three road matches across Oregon and Washington this week, facing Portland State on Sunday, Portland on Tuesday, and Seattle U on Thursday.
Sunday's match against the Vikings is set to begin at 4 p.m. MT, with live results available here. The Bobcats' match at Portland is set for 11 a.m. MT on Tuesday and will be live streamed here. Live results for the match can be found here. The Cats' road-trip finale against Seattle U will begin at 10 a.m. MT on Thursday.
"We've had a great week of practice, and we're looking forward to three more opportunities on this trip," Montana State head coach Hailey Barrett said. "We'll have a conference match and then two more non-conference matches to finish out the trip. This is a resilient group, and we'll keep battling for every point."
The Bobcats return to action after a pair of matches in Washington last week, facing Eastern Washington on March 6 and Gonzaga on March 7. The Bobcats fell to the Eagles in a tight 4-3 decision, before dropping their match to the Bulldogs, 4-0. The Cats swept all three doubles matches against Eastern Washington, and Nia Gelashvili and Angel Bean earned singles victories on courts two and three, respectively. Montana State played to clinch against the Bulldogs and dropped a pair of doubles matches and three singles matches to a tough Gonzaga team.
The Cats (3-8, 0-3 Big Sky) will look to snap a seven-match losing streak when they face Portland State to open their road trip on Sunday. The Vikings are set to play their first match in two weeks on Sunday and are 4-3 on the season, most recently falling in a tight 4-3 battle to Portland on March 1. Portland State will open its conference slate when it faces the Bobcats at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center, while the Cats will seek their first conference win after starting 0-3 in Big Sky play. Montana State has won three of its last four matches over the Vikings, including a 7-0 sweep in Bozeman on March 14, 2025.
Portland will face fellow Big Sky foe Montana on Sunday before taking on the Bobcats on Tuesday. Heading into this weekend, the Pilots are 3-5 on the season and will play in their non-conference finale when they face the Bobcats at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center on Tuesday. Portland has won each of its last two matches, earning 4-3 victories over UC Riverside on Feb. 22 and Portland State on March 1. The two teams last faced each other during the 2023-24 season, with Portland earning a 7-0 victory.
Seattle U enters this weekend with a 1-7 record, dropping each of its last three contests. The Redhawks were swept, 7-0, by Eastern Washington (Feb. 21) and UNLV (March 6), in back-to-back matches before dropping a 4-0 decision to New Mexico State on March 7. Seattle U will face Idaho on Wednesday before facing Montana State on Thursday. The Cats have won four-straight matches against the Redhawks dating back to the 2018-19 season, most recently posting a 5-2 victory in Bozeman on Jan. 14, 2024.
Following their three-game road trip, the Bobcats will return to the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center to face New Mexico State in their non-conference finale on March 29 at 10 a.m.
