Cats play at Air Force on Sunday
BOZEMAN, Montana – Montana State begins its final extended road trip of the season Sunday when the Bobcats play at Air Force. First serve is 10 am at the US Air Force Academy.
The Bobcats also play a pair of matches in Chicago during the trek, which includes three matches in five days, but the regional power Falcons provide the first and sternest test. USAFA owns a 4-6 overall record before hosting BYU on Friday. Air Force dropped road matches to Omaha and Creighton, the same result as MSU at both sites, and owns a 6-1 win over Weber State. The Falcons lost to Idaho State and Northern Arizona.
AJ Moore is 7-3 overall in singles play this season, including 5-3 at No. 2. Phillip Deaton owns a 6-3 record at No. 1 singles, while Jack Brown is 5-4. Those are the only three players with winning records entering weekend play.
Max Relic leads the Bobcats with a 5-2 record at No. 1 singles, but a pair of freshmen have fortified the team just below him on the ladder Dario Ciobotaru is 7-4 split between the first two courts, while Kanika Jayathilake is 5-2 playing at No. 5 and No. 6. Grad transfer Andras Necz is 5-3 on the season, while senior Jacob Huppin is 5-4.
The Bobcats stand 6-5 on the season, 2-0 in Big Sky Conference action. After Sunday's match against the Falcons the Bobcats play at Chicago State on Tuesday and Illinois-Chicago on Thursday.
