Sacramento State Tops MSU Men's Tennis Team 5-2

A pair of MSU freshmen grab singles, doubles wins
BOZEMAN, Montana – Freshmen Rayen Hermassi and Andre Stewart each scored singles wins but Sacramento State's experience and firepower prevailed as the Hornets beat Montana State 5-2 in a Big Sky Conference men's tennis match at the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center on Saturday.
Hermassi and Stewart also combined for Montana State's lone doubles win, earning a 6-3 victory over Adam Chodur and Hayden Rand on court two. MSU's No. 1 doubles team, Andras Necz and Max Relic, dropped a 7-6 (6-4) decision in a tie-breaker as the Hornets sealed the doubles point. Earlier, Sac State's Jiri Novak and Jan Silva beat Dario Ciobotaru and Kanika Jayathilake 6-3 at No. 3 doubles.
Singles play proved similarly competitive. Two of the six matches lasted three sets, including one match tiebreaker and another set tiebreaker. Hermassi captured a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 win over Chodur on court four. Stewart beat Michael Kaplan 6-4, 7-5 at No. 5. Jan Silva won the clincher for Sacramento State on court three, a 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 nail-biter against MSU's Andras Necz. Keki beat Relic 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 and Mate Voros topped Ciobotaru 6-3, 7-5 to pull the Hornets within one point of the team victory. Rudolfs Aksenoks beat MSU's Kanika Jayathilake 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-3) at No. 6.
Montana State's record drops to 7-9 overall, 2-2 in the Big Sky, with the loss. Sac State now stands 12-5, 4-1. The Bobcats play at Idaho on Wednesday at 4 pm before returning home for a Sunday match at 1 pm against league-leading NAU.
