Cats win seven of nine matches played
Montana State captured the doubles point and swept the first three singles points, taking a 6-1 men's tennis win at Eastern Washington on Saturday.
Bobcat freshman Dario Ciobotaru earned a 4-6, 7-6, 6-3 win against Tyler Waddock at No. 2 singles to seal MSU's win. The clincher came on the heels of singles wins by Andras Necz at second singles (6-3, 6-4 over Drew Dillon) and Max Relic on the first court (7-6, 6-2 over Caden Kammerer). Andre Stewart also earned a 6-2, 6-2 No. 5 singles win for the Cats, and Spokane product Jacob Huppin earned a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 6.
Eastern earned the day's first result with a 6-4 in at No. 2 doubles, but the Bobcats captured the point in quick succession. Relic and Necz took a 7-6 win at No. 1, then Kanika Jayathilake and Ciobotaru earned a 6-4 win at No. 3. Eastern Washington's Tyler Dalos won EWU's only point of the day by taking a win at No. 4 singles.
"This is a challenging place to play," said Bobcat coach Rob Bareford, "and we're not playing at our best level. Kudos to EWU for fighting until the end. It's great to be 2-0 in the conference, but we know we have to raise our level across the board."
Montana State raised its record to 6-5 on the season, 2-0 in Big Sky play. The Cats visit Air Force on March 10 before matches at Chicago State an Illinois-Chicago.
