MSU plays the Blue Jays on Friday and UNO on Sunday
BOZEMAN, Montana – The road adventures of Montana State's men's tennis team extends to the Midwest this weekend, as the Bobcats visit Creighton and Omaha on the road this weekend.
The Cats fell at BYU and Utah State last weekend, falling to 4-2 on the young season, and face two winning programs this weekend. Montana State faces Creighton at 8 am on Friday, and Omaha at 12 noon on Sunday.
Creighton enters Friday's match 5-3 on the season, with two losses at Nebraska and one to Drake. The Blue Jays own wins over North Dakota, Air Force, Chicago State, DePaul and Youngstown State. The Jays own only one victory at No. 1 singles, but Zachary Kuo is 4-3 at No. 3 and Yuma Daijima stands 5-1 at No. 6. Creighton has taken the doubles point in five of the team's eight matches.
Omaha rides a three-match winning streak into its weekend matches, which includes a Saturday showdown against Gonzaga. The Mavericks own a 5-4 record on the season, including a 4-3 win at Weber State on January 31. UNO owns a 5-4 record at three different ladder positions – No. 2, No. 3, and No. 6 – and Bryan Kuntz leads the team with five wins (5-4 overall) playing primarily at the middle ladder spots.
The youthful Bobcats head into action with only two upperclassmen expected to play. Senior Jacob Huppin and grad student Andras Necz lead the Bobcats into play on the weekend. Still, the four remaining ladder spots belong to freshmen or sophomores. Max Relic, a sophomore who plays atop the team's ladder, has battled injury early in the season, as has Andras. Frosh Dario Ciobotaru, Rayen Hermassi, Kanika Jayathilake and Andre Stewart figure into the weekend rotation.
