The Montana State women's tennis team will look to take another step towards solidifying a spot in the Big Sky Conference tournament when it hosts Northern Arizona on Friday at 10 a.m. in the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center.
Montana State (5-13, 2-3) is tied for fifth with Eastern Washington in the league standings heading into Friday's contest, while Northern Arizona (5-7, 3-1) is second behind undefeated Weber State (11-6, 5-0)- a team the Bobcats nearly upset before dropping a 4-3 decision last Sunday in the BATC.
"The Weber State match was difficult, especially at Nos. 3 and 4," said MSU head coach Jon Reeves. "There was nothing easy about it and we were on edge the entire time. I'm proud of our doubles play against Weber State and we look to carrying that momentum. We'll keep working on the same things, but we'll give the girls different looks and give them a little more information. It's a stepping-stone when it comes to doubles."
Northern Arizona is a on a three match Big Sky Conference winning streak, including a 7-0 decision over Eastern Washington last Sunday in Flagstaff. The Lumberjacks are led by No. 1 singles standout Gina Dittmann, a sophomore from Essen, Germany.
MSU will be led by its No. 1 singles player Marta Garcia-Reboredo, who posted a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Weber State's Ana Morett Salas last Sunday.
Following Friday's match, the Bobcats close out its regular season with two matches: at Idaho State on April 8 and at home against Sacramento State on April 10.
"We are taking a one match at a time approach," Reeves said. "It's been that way the entire. We've never had seven people in a practice this year from the start of January- it's one of those things where we wait every week to see who we have, but in that situation, we have to take every match one at a time."
