Bobcat Women Begin Homestretch with Weber State Sunday

Montana State’s women’s tennis team begins the homestretch portion of its schedule as it closes out its regular season playing three of four matches in the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center starting Sunday morning at 10 a.m. against Weber State.
Montana State's women's tennis team begins the homestretch portion of its schedule as it closes out its regular season playing three of four matches in the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center starting Sunday morning at 10 a.m. against Weber State.
Weber State (10-6, 3-0) enters the match as the Big Sky Conference's only undefeated squad, while Montana State (5-12, 2-2) is looking to keep the momentum going following two come-from-behind victories over Montana and Portland State.
"Weber State has set themselves apart from other Big Sky teams at this point," said MSU head coach Jon Reeves. "They're leading the conference. They've done a great job this year.
"We have had two good matches for wins coming back from 3-1 down to beat Montana and Portland State- both clinched by Jasmine Lerman, who has played just had an incredible semester," Reeves added.
Lerman, a sophomore from Buenos Aires, Argentina, guides the Bobcats with eight singles victories, including notable wins over Wyoming, Gonzaga, UM and PSU.
Also contributing to MSU's successes are Marta Garcia-Reboredo and Mirte Van Baelen. Garcia-Reboredo, a freshman from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain, has recorded six singles victories, most coming at the top spot on the ladder, while Van Baelen, a sophomore from Mol, Belgium, has five victories.
"Mirte has really stepped it up singles-wise at No. 2," Reeves said. "And Marta is having a good freshman year at number one."
MSU returns from a 15-day hiatus when it faces Weber State. "We're ready and excited to play after taking spring break off," Reeves said. "We had some time to take care of some aches and pains and try to get everyone back to full strength, but we're still missing Felicia (Jayasaputra)."
Following Sunday's match, the Bobcats have three contests remaining, including home games against Northern Arizona (April 1) and Northern Arizona (April 10). MSU's lone remaining road match is at Idaho State, April 8. "Conference on the women's side is very close," Reeves commented. "All the teams are very even at this point."
