MSU Men's Tennis Team Heads South for Challenging Four-Match Road Swing

Bobcats face Utah State, BYU, Weber State and Utah from Sunday to Tuesday
BOZEMAN, Montana – Montana State's men's tennis team attacks the second leg of a two-weekend non-conference gauntlet beginning Sunday, when the Bobcats face Utah State in Logan at 12 noon.
That match begins a four-match, three-day swing through the state of Utah that features matches against schools from the Mountain West, West Coast and Pac 12 conferences, as well as a non-league tilt with Weber State. The Cats face BYU at 9:30 am Monday before a 3 pm showdown with Weber State in Ogden. Then, MSU plays at Utah on Tuesday.
The Aggies enter Sunday's match with an 8-4 record that features wins over Big Sky schools Idaho State, Eastern Washington, Weber State, and Northern Arizona. Utah State dropped early season contests to Denver and at Gonzaga, with the other losses to Utah and Arizona State of the Pac 12. Sergiu Bucur leads the Aggies from the No. 1 singles spot, posting a 6-5 record. Javier Ruiz is 8-3 as the primary No. 5 player, while Souf El Mesbahi stands 7-3 as the primary No. 3 player. After a Friday win over St. Mary's BYU stands 7-5 on the season, including wins over Weber State, Idaho State, and Montana. Oregon beat the Cougars twice, with the other losses to Mountain West foes New Mexico, Utah State, and UNLV. The trip up I-15 to Ogden on Monday afternoon pits the Bobcats against a Weber State team that is 4-6 on the season, 0-0 against Big Sky South foes before a March 27 match against NAU. Kris Van Wyk is 5-3 at the top ladder spot, while Sebastian Buxman is 7-3 as the primary No. 3 player.
The Utes enter weekend play with an 11-7 record. The Utes have lost three of their last four matches, all to Pac 12 opponents, but own three wins over Big Sky opponents and three over the Mountain West. Slava Shainyan stands 9-7 overall, 7-5 at the top ladder spot, while Bruno Krenn is 9-7 at the bottom three ladder spots.
